Ferritin is a protein in your blood that contains iron. Low ferritin levels indicate that iron stores in your body are low and you suffer from iron deficiency anemia. High ferritin levels indicate that your body stores too much iron as seen in hemochromatosis, liver disease, hyperthyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis & some types of cancer.
