Insulin is a hormone produced by pancreas in your body. It helps the body to convert food into energy. After we eat, insulin makes sugar/glucose to move from the blood into the cells to produce fat, protein & sugar. When we need more energy, insulin helps us to use fat, protein & sugar that we have stored. Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not make enough insulin to meet its daily need or does not properly use the insulin it makes. Type 1 diabetes is due to deficiency of insulin as the cells of pancreas producing insulin are destroyed. Type 2 diabetes is due to resistance of the body to the action of insulin. This test is used for the management of diabetes. It is also used to diagnose insulin secreting tumor called Insulinoma. Helps assess insulin resistance and diabetes- Aids in diagnosing hyperinsulinemia- Supports evaluation of metabolic syndrome- Assists in identifying insulinoma- Useful in monitoring therapy for diabetes- Helps differentiate type 1 from type 2 diabetes.
