Procalcitonin test helps to diagnose sepsis in your body. Severe bacterial infection can spread into the blood stream causing septicemia & septic shock. This can happen in both adults & neonates. Procalcitonin levels are high in bacterial infections but remain low in viral infections. Helps diagnose bacterial sepsis and systemic infections- Aids in differentiating bacterial vs viral infections- Supports monitoring of antibiotic therapy effectiveness- Assists in assessing severity of pneumonia and septic shock.
