Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a long standing inflammation of tissues in your digestive tract. You suffer from diarrhea, blood in stool, pain abdomen, fatigue & weight loss. Similar symptoms are seen if you suffer from Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is important to differentiate between these 2 diseases as the treatment is different. Fecal Calprotectin is a protein which is detected in the stool of patients with inflamed intestines. It is high in patients suffering from IBD but not in IBS. This test helps to detect IBD, monitor these patients & help decide when colonoscopy should be done. Helps diagnose inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)- Assists in differentiating IBD from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)- Aids in monitoring response to IBD treatment- Supports assessment of gastrointestinal inflammation.
